Pavey Group in partnership with ELF Community Transport Service benefiting patients in Exeter and across Devon.

Date: January 2014.

Here at Pavey Group we are delighted to be in partnership with the Exeter Leukaemia Fund, helping fund and sponsor their Community Transport Service, an integral part of the ELF Community Support Programme which was launched in May 2013.

Established in 1987, Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF) has helped support thousands of sufferers of leukaemia, lymphoma and other blood conditions who have been referred to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (RD&E).

Over the next 2 years we will make a significant contribution towards the transport service, with the aim to support and make things easier during what is often a difficult and challenging time for individuals. Treatment for blood related conditions can often be complex with visits to the Haematology Centre at the RD&E Hospital being on a regular or infrequent basis, making NHS transport difficult to access. Covering all of Devon, the ELF drivers will collect patients from, and return them to, their homes, in one of three professionally presented and liveried vehicles free of charge. In addition, the community vehicles can also transport haematology patients to Bristol and further afield.

In the first 8 months over 2,000 journeys were organised and carried out. It is anticipated that going forward, approximately 4,500 journeys will be made annually, which is a considerable commitment and undertaking by the charity.

The feedback and comments received from patients have been fantastic including “A helping hand with a heart of gold” and “First class friendly service, taking the stress out not having to try and find a car parking space”.

Geoff Gale, Director at Pavey Group comments “The ELF Community Transport Service is a fantastic initiative and one that we are incredibly proud to be supporting, particularly as the service benefits patients in Exeter and across Devon.

Dale Edwards, CEO of ELF said “I am delighted that Pavey Group have agreed to sponsor the ELF Community Transport Service for the next two years.  The charity has valued the expertise of Pavey Group for a number of years, as they have sourced competitive insurance and provided advice on financial investments, all in all an ideal partner”.

We went along to the Hematology Unit at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital with Crediton Media to produce this promotional video for the ELF Community Transport programme:
