2016 – 2017 Charity of the Year: Children’s Hospice South West
What a fantastic 12 months it's been working with Children’s Hospice South West. Through the hard work and dedication of our colleagues across 3 offices, we are delighted to have raised a grand total of £12,326.
From monthly office events to personal challenges, we have by far exceeded our expectations on what we believed we could achieve for our first ever Charity of the Year. Below you will find ‘our best bits’ from the last 12 months, working together with Children’s Hospice South West.
Jail & Bail – Friday 13th May 2016
On Friday 13th May, our Sales Director Christopher Dean was escorted from Heavitree Police Station, handcuffed and taken by means of a police van to Exeter Castle, the former law courts where he appeared in front of the judge for his apparent crimes against driving (…oh so slow!).
Chris was one of nine jailbirds who if found guilty would be taken into custody, photographed and banished to the cells. To secure his freedom a minimum bail amount of £999 had to be raised from professional connections, clients, family & friends.
As tempting as it was for us to keep Chris locked up for as long as possible, we are delighted to confirm Chris exceed his bail, raising a total of £1,614.75 thus securing his freedom.
The day was a resounding success with the 9 jail birds, raising a fantastic £17,500! This could fund a specialist children’s nurse at one of our hospices for seven months – not bad for a day’s work!
Pavey Car Wash – Thursday 30th June
The weather was extremely kind to us on Thursday 30th June for our very own ‘Pavey Car Wash’. Our Exeter and Torquay staff worked their socks off washing a total of 40 cars for staff and neighbouring businesses! It was hard work, but it was great to see so many of our staff rolling up their sleeves and getting involved. We even had our car washing supplies donated by our local Tesco!
Sunday 31st July – Rob Rees, The Independent Rambler
On Sunday 21st July, our Financial Adviser Rob Rees set off on his 630 mile stretch of the South West coast. Rob‘s intention was to spend the next 6 weeks making his way along the 115,000 feet of ascent/descent - the equivalent to climbing Everest four times from sea level! A fantastic personal challenge which saw Rob raise almost £5,000 for Children’s Hospice South West. Unfortunately Rob had to return home after 15 consecutive days and 210 miles, but we’re pleased to say he has returned to the path almost every weekend since and the 630 mile finish line is almost in reach! Do Good & Donate! – Tuesday 25th October
After discussions with CHSW on how we could support them for the upcoming months, it became apparent they were running low on clothing donations for their local charity shops. Hence our ‘Do Good & Donate’ day was born.... As many busy professionals don’t have time to take their unwanted items to charity shops, Pavey Group would visit the businesses to pick up the collections instead!
Whilst members of the team spent the morning collecting charity shop donations from businesses in the area, the rest of the team worked as volunteers at CHSW’s Sidwell Street shop in Exeter helping to sort through the collections and assisting with general shop duties.
We collected a whopping 78 bags from local businesses! We even had to make 2 journeys and offload to make sure everything reached the shop in time! CHSW informed us that on average, each bag sells for £23… which mean we potentially helped raised over £1,700 worth of donations!
We loved spending the day working alongside the wonderful shop volunteers, we were very much made to feel like part of the team with an endless supply of tea & biscuits! You can read our Blog for further information on the day.
Friday 1st December – Holsworthy Santa Run
We were delighted to be the main sponsor of the first ever Holsworthy Santa Run! Being able to support this fun event in a town where we have also recently opened a new office, was an ideal way to extend our partnership and meet the locals. On the evening (which nicely coincided with the Christmas Light switch on), we saw hundreds of Santa’s take to streets across the South West in this 2k festive fun run.
So overall, a jam packed 12 months full of fundraising! It’s been great working alongside the Children’s Hospice South West Team. They are such a brilliant, caring and compassionate charity, providing hospice care to children with a wide range of disorders & serious, life limiting illnesses. If you are a business reading this, we would seriously recommend that you consider them for your next Charity of the Year.
